What causes the serpentine belt to get chewed up, my belt was brand new when i bought my jeep, now it is half gone, that was less than a few months ago, my friend said his harmonic balancer was the problem. I'm trying to get some input on if that's it or not.

Well, have you inspected the HB? It is quite common for them to separate and take out a belt when they get old. The problem could be in any of the belt-driven accessories.
Do a visual on the pulleys with the engine running and a bright spotlight.
