like others have said theres the break point, most people prefer a one piece axle and unless you run a cable actuator the 4wd has a tenancy to fail when you need it do to broken/melted vacuum lines
I still have my vac-disco and so far so good. But what a lot of people do if they do not swap the whole axle, is either lock the fork with the axle always engaged, or swap in a one piece axle shaft/seal. Which would allow running the larger/better 760 u joint.
because you have to remove everything above the tube and then rewend what you need ontop of the truss, so where the truss meets the completely diff contour of the axle tube where the vac disco cast piece is, it wont fit right. I dont see why you couldnt clearance teh truss to work. but you would need to use a block off plate and prolly perm attach it (bolt it well and seal it good) and attach that also to teh truss.
