8.25 rear discs

My understanding is that they will but the center hole in the backing plate will need to be enlarged. I know there is a show thread but I don't kave the link. Anyone else have the link?

First off, I'm almost 100% positive 8.25's DID NOT come in ZJ's. So you will need to grab the brakes off a ZJ d35, and as mentioned you will need to bore out the center hole in the backing plate so it will fit over the axle tube.

If your lucky enough to find a brake setup off a KJ (liberty) I'm pretty sure that will be a direct bolt on.

And you must not of searched right, becuase there are PLENTY of write-ups out there, heres some:

I did this a few months ago....SOOOOO easy. Yes, get ALL brakes related parts for the Grand . IIRC my loner ZJ was a 97' from the U pull it JY. Be sure to get everything...calipers, slides, rotors, etc. Get new pads and shoes (for e-brake). Have the rotors turned when you get them. Also i did NOTHING with the brake booster prop valve....some do some dont. Like i said i did nothing i and it stops/hord 10X better than with Drums. I can even stop an a STEP hill climb!! Do a little searching and you'll have every write up you can find

VERY worth the the SMALL investment. I have like $50-$60 in it, including turned rotors.

Did your XJ e-brake cables work or did you have to swap them as well?

XJ disc conversion cables can be ordered from Rustys, Quadratec, 4wd.com, Jeep4x4center.com, and more places under the following part numbers by Crown:
84/96 use p/n DBC-05 (L&R side x 2)
97/01 R use p/n DBC-06
97/01 L use p/n DBC-07

So you will need to grab the brakes off a ZJ d35

Or a ZJ with a D44A. That's what I got my rear discs off of for my old XJ. I now have Ford Explorer rear discs on my MJ.

Thanks for the links. I searched "8.25 rear discs" and "8.25 rear disks" with 0 search results with either one. I thought it quite odd there were no results.

Just an FYI on the KJ rear disks...on '03-5s most KJs don't make it more than 30-50k miles without needing a rear caliper (for whatever reason).

Personally, I've got an '02 with one-year-only drum brakes and I am more than happy with them, aside from shoe selection (this doesn't affect you guys, though). The parking brake on the disk-rear KJs sucks, too. If I were you I'd live with what you got until you can swap a '95+ Explorer 8.8 in there.
