Changing Carrier

My buddy has an 06 wrangler with the d35 in the rear. Was driving the other day and managed to break his spider gears. Big surprise. It also cracked the carrier where the retaining bolt for the crosspin goes. If we get our hands on the same carrier thats not cracked, do we need to reset anything with the gear patterns? I know changing the spiders will be easy, just dont know about the gear patterns.

You will need to do a complete new setup. Re-setting up old gears is tricky. They almost always end up making a lot of running noise.

No need for a complete re-set since the pinion didn't change, just check the backlash and pattern before you pull his carrier, match that upon re-install.

That sucks didn't want to put any real work into a turdy 5. Might just try to find one cheap. The crack is tiny too just a hairline crack could probably just put new spiders in and run it, but he got lucky once and didn't damage the R&P. Probably wont be that lucky next time.

Once you put a few hundred/few thousand ft-lbs of torque into the carrier, that hairline crack will turn into something much bigger than a hairline. At the minimum get a new carrier.
