dual batteries

i saw a kit that took out the stock air box and ran a short hose with a cone filter. put a battery tray in the stock air bok location, and the existing stock battery in a xj? any other ways of hooking up a dual kit???

Most of the dual battery underhood kits use the parts for the Diesel XJs, so you can check for parts for that.

There are some aftermarket kits out there as well to put two batteries under the hood, but I don't recall vendors.

I'm thinking about multiple batteries in my rig, but I'll probably end up relocating all batteries to the cargo area, in boxes. That should free up some underhood space for other uses...

This should be a easy install with pieces you can buy yourself. I did one on a Cutlass a few years back. I would suggest buying an isolator for the batteries. It won't be starting off both batteries that way, but you can run accessories of your second battery, ie. stereo, winch, etc. It is pretty easy to install, just follow directions. Something else I would suggest is using a deep cycle battery, it will handle a slow draw, then recharge better than a regular battery. I could run a 5000 watt stereo for a whole day from the deep cycle. Hope this helps.

Mean Green sells one through Quadratec, it doesn't come with any of the wiring stuff though.

Wrangler NW Power sells a complete kit, minus the air tube. The price is steep though.

thank you, the quadratec is the one i was loooking at previously.. thats the one i was trying to find. thanks a bunch..

Have anyone used an air intake tube from a Wrangler on their XJ? I mean the one that goes across the engine tothe passenger side.
I want to do this and use the freed up space where the OEM air filter box is for a second battery. I use my XJ for work (wireless communications) and often have several computers and other electronic equipment running at the same time. I need the peace of mind to know when I return to the XJ there is enough battery power to start the 4.0

just curious, why do you want a dual battery system?

...BOB

i have lots of electric components and 2 12" subs gonna be hooked up. 600W each

my air tube runs to the passenger side. Works good but isnt pulling very cold air. I am probably going to put back in the air box and do an airflow snorkle next. I also am going to run the bateries into the back of the jeep to power the amps, computer, cameras and lights etc...

Build a box and bolt them to the floor....

Do you have pictures of the air tube as it crosses the engine compartment? What equipment I need to relocate in order to fit the filter element? The idea sound good in theory; the actual practically is another question.

I am currently running three optimas, a yellow under hood and two reds in the rear, I have the rear two isolated and am using 2 gauge cable that can be had from a tractor supply, its welding cable(very good insulation ,chem resistant and cheap) I am using a load boss 165-200 amp alt to charge with. This all works VERY well to power the eight hella 500s and the zr1000 and two zr240s

Lazarus,

Who makes the alternator you are using?

here is a picture, it is a Rock-it intake system

It hits the hood a little bit but not enough to dent anything and it also touches the oil dip stick but I can still check my oil.

i like the solonoid that comes in that kit.

i've been thinking about a dual batt. set up for my 95 but don't want to be forced into a cone filter and don't really want my second batt. in the rear cargo compartment to become launched as a projectile in the event of a incident.

put in a sealed battery box or get an odessy. Either way it is straped down and perfectly safe.
