Why? Because it makes jokes about your sexual orientation and / or prowess redundant.

Edit. Forgot about the WHY part. Well lets see....Massive box section ladder frame, lots of ground clearance, Smooth V8 with plenty of low end grunt, viscous center locking diff. as well as front and rear locking diffs. and an air adjustable suspension with a range of 5 inches. Oh yeah, and it rides like a luxury car on the highway. If only the fuel and maintenance costs were on par with my XJ, it might just be the perfect SUV!

I'd have to give a general thumbs up to the classic Land Rovers. I've got a friend who got into restoring a series 3 that's been in his family since it was new. Through him I got a chance to check out some other Series and Defenders, I was pretty impressed to say the least.Close second? Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. Solid axles, dual lockers, 4:1 t-case, Dana 44 axles (well, almost) and 32" MT/Rs out of the box.
-----Matt-----Did you mean 31" MT/Rs? :shhh: And the 07's are supposed to have "real" 44's, even though they chose some weird spline count. They're at least stronger than the "imitation" front 44's they've been using.

I had a 95 for a while. I liked it alot, but it was limited by its size and it was weak and a gas hog. I hated the single digit gas mileage around town. I never had one problem out of it and it had a really nice interior and it looked great cleaned up. It was a pretty classy looking SUV.

OK, I know I'm gonna get flamed on this one... but just bought my wife an H3. This thing seems pretty good out of the box. Locking rear, 32's, and a 40:1 low range...
Of course I haven't had it off-road -- the wife says that won't happen until I inherit it... in about 5 years.
But it feels really solid, clearence and approach/departure angles are great, and rides like a Caddy on the road.
Plus, it gave me an excuse to get my lift. I told the wife there was no way she could have a vehicle that had tires 4" bigger than my XJ!

Actually, I would like one...
For my DAUGHTER! Small and cute for her tastes, only two seats so the teen won't carry a bunch of kids, and oftenAWD so I won't worry as much in the winter...
The Suzuki X-90, of course.

2000's-Rubicon
Solid Axles, Lockers, decent sized tires out of the box
1990's-Land Rover Discovery
Solid Axles, Lockers, coil springs, V-8 engine, no low hanging stuff underneath
1980's-S10 Blazer
Yeah it's IFS but posi front&rear, decent flex for what it is, gear ratios from hell, full skids and good power/weight ratio. piss poor departure angle tho
1970's-Cherokee Chief
401 V-8, wide track width, long WB, solid axles, available trac-lok, good ground clearance and quadra-trac which is comparable to the 242's seen on XJ's

1985XJLaredo-Have you ever driven either of the trucks you posted?
I was in the military for the better part of my life and I've driven just about every Jeep enlisted, lastly being the M38A1 if I remember correctly, but before the 1st Gulf War my unit was one of the first to recieve the M1037 or Humvee and I was disapointed. When driven thru the very same mudholes or sand pits we took the Jeeps thru on countless ocasions the Humvees got stuck more often than not and it was kinda scary in Iraq. I do give them this tho, they do keep the elements out a hell of alot better they are nice for water crossings where there's not so much mud and they have better heaters.

I love those old S10 Blazers. I had a few of them and you just can't kill them. I've never had a vehicle that can take a beating like they can and just keep coming back for more. Plus, they last 300K+ miles if you halfway take care of them. Both of mine had nearly 300K miles on them when I sold them and I abused the shit out of them. I took pretty good care of them mechanically and appearance wise, but they had a HARD life. They were in remarkably good shape when I sold them.
They do wheel pretty good. One was 2wd and the stuff it would make it through really surprised a lot of people. :D
