Does anyone know some good places to ride around the Chattanooga area? I am sick of going to Prentice Cooper, McDowell's Big Fork(about to be closed if not already), and Mt. Etna. I don't really know of any other places besides those 3. I guess I'm going to have to start making my own.

Ya ive only been to Big forks, aetna, and prentice cooper, but I dont know my way around PC very well and last time i was there i just ended updriving on dirt trails and never really found anything good. It seems like I hear Aetna is always about to close, does it have somehting to do with the entrance being at cummings cove?
Also anyone got a tc skid plate for sale around here?

Cummings Cove has alot to do with the attempted closings of Mt Etna. I guess all the rich folks(Zach Wamp lives in their) don't want us bringing our "loud, offensive-looking redneck trail rigs" up there. Also, it has become kind of a shady area from what I've seen and heard, with lots of drinking and drug use. Not to mention, all the trash people haul up there and throw all over the place. Hell, I've found tv's, computers, and fridges just to name a few. McDowell's Big Fork is closing I just don't know when. They have paved the main trail road and have started clearing the land to build houses along the side of the mountain. If you haven't seen the sunset overlooking Sequatchie Valley from this area, I highly recommend you do it very soon.
I will come and wheel in Windrock next year when I transfer to UTK.

Zach Wamps daughter used to go to my school, and there is a whole lot of trash on Aetna. Even old trucks that have been lit on fire and have been left there. Last time I was in Big Forks was probably about a month ago and the main trail was still dirt, but is the entrance on the signal mountain side at janies tavern still the same...thats the more fun way anyway.

The only problem with riding Monteagle is that it is all private land. If you want to ride, get into contact with the Damn Locals 4x4 Club at www.damnlocals.com and you can ride with them sometime. They are all really cool guys and have permission from the landowners to be there.

I think that was the Rosser Roundup's...I was there in '99. Not sure what year they stopped it.

Coppinger's Cove is a Huge place relatively near-by. Monteagle used to be incredible, but the Rosser Event that was mentioned in an earlier post brought in too many people that tried to come back on their own. Most of those trails are gone because of that. If you know where to look, there are trails in the Ocoee and Hiwassee areas of the Cherokee Forest. Dayton has Hummerland and if you know someone in the Scenic City Club you could go there with them. It's the hardest of Hard Core!

I would first suggest not going to contruction sites. But the place on manufacturers road, is that a trail?, becasue i have seen a trail that goes behind a factory but as I went into it I noticed it was very overgrown. Is this what you are talking about?

Armor was a good first choice of expenditures...at 3 inches, I think all of mine is well scared, and I really haven't been hitting the trails to regularly at all. I think I might have been on 3 or 4 medium duty trails! I protected it first because I'm not planning on building another truck anytime soon. I need this one to last as long as my last trail ride.....14 years!:viking:

Not familiar with the Warn skid. The CRS skid covers both the tcase and Tranny pan, both built onto a new cross member. I think it was right around $300.

Yes my shop. It is all home based now, I work at the toyota motor plant in huntsville. If I retire or when I decide to stop working for them I will go into offroad fabbing full time. However I do it on the side for now, and make most parts for xj's.
Thanks for offering me a place to park. My rig is not street legal as you can tell. The full hydro makes it harder to steer at fast speeds. I have been thinking about putting flow controls on it for when I have to drive faster. I work a bad shift. 1st 2nd 3rd and it rotates every week. Most weekends I am free, just make a date.

The cops don't care about any modified vehicle around here. As a matter of fact, I think driving any kind of modified Jeep around here you are less likely to get pulled over. Cops go off-road to ya know...Besides, if you haven't noticed, Chattanooga is an XJ town. They are everywhere. I see more and more modified XJ's around town than alot of other cities I visit.

Hey guys,
I'm from nashville but I just started dating a girl in Chattanooga. I'm in town this weekend, anyone want to meet up for coffee or something Saturday afternoon?
My rig is a police package 93, but other than some Cragars and 235 ATs its stock with no recovery points. I want to talk with some of you guys about the trails around here and maybe get together for a ride after I get my recovery points.

NOS/86 its good to see a familier face on here off SCF. anyways we def need to get a ride together soon. i live here in Soddy and know of several good places around here, flattop, bakewell and salecreek. is there anyone on here that lives on Cagle mtn? i used to see trucks with trailers parked at the gas station off highway 8 all the time when i was going to school at mtsu. anyone know of any good places to wheel up there?

Let me know next time ya'll are gonna be up. I would like to tag along. I just got some towhooks, and I'll be installing them when I can. Other than that, I should be able to do some wheeling.

When you are parked behind the house in the gravel at the top of Lewis Chapel, what is that trail that drops off the side of the mountain on the right? We have been down the mountain on the trail that comes out near Dunlap on that farm, but I have never been down the one right off the gravel area.
Does that description make sense?
