hard drive camcorder

I've got a baby on the way, and the wife and I are looking into HD camcorders to capture all the special moments. JVC and Sony seem to be the only two producing them right now for under $1k. Does anyone have any experience with the JVC Everio series or the Sony Handy Cams.

I sold a Sony SR40 on Thursday (work at a camera shop)... seems like a pretty good camera. 7 hours of the normal res video, which is pretty cool. downside is that you need to hook it up to a tv to watch the footage. DVD camcorders seem to be the most convenient, just finalize and drop into your DVD player. just limited to 30 minutes, though.

yeah, but 7 hours ~ 30 gigs. :)
