Has anyone ever tried to use an additional Manual transmission as a crawl box. I think length would be an issue but if you could do it, you would have a large range of gear ratios available.

Just to clarify I have no actual intention of doing this, I thought if would be an interesting idea to discuss.

when i worked at jiffy lube yrs a go a guy came in with an old 12v dodge, he had duel trannys in it, it wasn't as long as you would think but the low range in this thing was awesome, he did a lot of heavy towing thats why he ran the two trans.

over on Pirate theres a dude that setup dual trannys. IIRC his first setup was a 700R4 with a NP465 behind it, i believe hes got dual 465's now.

Noting that you said you weren't going to do this... It sounds like it would open a huge range of options for gear ratios etc. what happens with 2 reverse gears? lol!

they negate each other and you have a really low forward gear

i know a guy that has dual trannys in a ranger. he likes it better than the doubler he had before.

I'm thinking double overdrive would be nice.

Double overdrive would be awesome.

But damn you Skier... you just HAD to start this thread, making Fox post that link to Pirate, which took me to the build thread there, which made me look at his 5ton Rockwell build, which made me spend a lotta money on some 5tons, which has my girl pissed at me. :banghead: So thanks, Skier, for trying to sabotage my relationship.

Now I gotta find something to put these into, as I'm currently Jeepless :D

I think it would be kinda cool, also been wondering how much effort it would take put a 231 planetary into an AX15 to end up with something like this http://advanceadapters.com/product/4341/RubiCrawler.html

It's not as long as you would think due to the fact that you don't need a clutch on the second one, so you can yank the bellhousing off it... I read the thread Ross linked a while ago, it's quite interesting.

I have wondered about doing something like this before but in the reverse. I wanted to use an old 3 speed behind the C6 in my 77 f250 but i was thinking of connecting the output of the auto to the output of the 3 speed, then the input of the 3 speed as the output......to get an overdrive. Didnt know how well it would hold up though, i was more concerned with towing and mileage than offroad.
