My work won't fix um.

I had one that was so bad...when the headlights were on the clearance lights on the roof would reflect in it and almost blind me. I finally had to take it into a port and tell them to write up a "notice to comply" to get them to fix it.

I don't remember when I got the last one. It was over a year though because the warranty was gone.

I left mine soaking in a cupholder of coke for a couple of hours though so I didn't really have a choice.

The pics of the snow blowing reminds me of the only time I've been REALLY scared driving in bad weather. Ice storm between Memphis and Little Rock last winter. Holy crap, 6 hours of driving on a 2" sheet of ice in a rental car. I was completely exhausted when I got to my hotel.

I lived in Los Alamos last year and we had really nice snow storms up there, hardly ever had ice build up on the road. Kinda weird having all the lightning during a snow storm but we had lightning all the time anyway.

Western Arkansas on I-40. December '04. Shortly after this we stopped! I got off on a side road and weaved my way south to get out of it. It really sucked! Added an extra 6 hours to my trip. Only reason it was that little was because of my two lane adventure. When I got to my wife's family's house in Alabama the news said people were still traped on 40.

EDIT: Notice I am driving on the "Wake up stupid" ripples. It was the only way I had any traction. (and for all of you who are wondering why I didn't stop, I couldn't find a hotel anywhere and everything was closed because of the strom.

Pics from my work- This was my trip to Wisconsin where we do most of our work.

Switch structure-
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/utahmom/Shane/P1060852.jpg

LARGE (fricking huge!) dead-end structure with two circuits of 345kV
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/utahmom/Shane/P1010129.jpg

Base plate of the same dead-end. This is a solid steel plate about 15ft across and 8" thick. 54 2 1/2" bolts that run to the bottom of the 25ft deep foundation hold it down.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/utahmom/Shane/P1010136.jpg

Laminated wood structure. 5ft wide at the ground line and about 7ft at the bottom. Over 80ft poking out of the ground.

They aren't so much confusing, as they are messy. They are coated in a silicone-ish vaseline-ish greasy-ish goo called icky pick. It gets all over you when you work with cables like that. It's especially runny when the phone boxes get hot in the summer sun. Good times.

My wife got up this morning, backed her car from the garage to the driveway and got stuck.

Came back in and told me she was taking the Jeep and that I would either have to dig the driveway out or drive the truck.

I left for work this morning at about 4:30. There was about 6 new inches of snow at that time. My wife kept calling me at work all day saying that it hadn't quit snowing and that it was piling up. I was working in Sandy and there was no snow to speak of. Boy was I surprised when I got home. I wouldn't have even made it into the driveway without my Jeep.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2403/2181061401_aa13c5308f.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/12voltman/2181061401/)

Luckily I have one of those good neighbors with a huge snow blower. He came over and made short work of my driveway. There was almost 2 feet of new snow. Plus everything that had accumulated in the last few days. If I step off the beaten path, the snow goes half way up my thigh. I don't remember this much snow in quite a few years.

Then, I figured the dogs could have some fun in this, so I turned them loose. That's Cooper in there somewhere.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2310/2181064483_fd8ea3774b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/12voltman/2181064483/)

I lost Cowboy for a minute and walked over to the vacant sage brush lot next door. There he was on point. I flushed a covey of about 15 quail. My neighbor was amazed. Then he gave me the stories most guys have of worthless bird dogs they had hunted with in the past. He thought ol' Cowboy was the coolest dog he had ever seen. He'll talk about that for a long time.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2053/2181064277_cea32fe104.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/12voltman/2181064277/)

A few minutes later I lost track of Cowboy again. I waded through the deep snow back over to the vacant lot. There he was in a different spot. This time half of him was missing. His front half was buried in the snow and he was pointing some more quail. I let him stay there for a good 3 minutes while I messed with the camera. I wish I had got a better picture because I doubt I will ever see that again.

About that time the School bus came by. It didn't look good, he was fish tailin' back and forth. Finally he got stuck.

Played "how many school kids can you pack into an XJ" after school because their mom's were stuck, pulled out several cars, including a short bus that got stuck in a plow berm.

We did plenty of donuts and starsky's in the way home to make the ride memorable for them......... this shot was taken before noon, snowed another 8" by 4pm.

Tamerisk is not native, it is an invader plant brought in to make river and ditch banks more stable. Problem is they are very prolific and suck up lots and lots of water. I don't think anyone would be against killing it off, at least I cant see why.

For me it's a wonderful drive. Traffic is minimal. In fact that is US-50 but when you leave Ely going west it splits into US-6 and 50. Going to Tonopah I take US-6 quite often Its almost 200 miles from Ely to Tonopah and one night last year I counted cars between towns. Six. Yep six cars passed me in almost 200 miles. There is zero cell coverage for most of that. It would be a hell of a bad place to have a major accident. If you had a heart attack you would just, well...die.

In the Grand Canyon my company maintains several emergency phones throughout the canyon. The radios that feed them are in very remote places off the main trails. To make a long story short, we had to change some batteries at one of the sites. To avoid the 12 mile hike with 80 pound batteries, we got to take the helicopter... It used to be you could take a helicopter tour into the canyon. But now days there are only two ways to get a ride in the canyon and especially land. One requires a stretcher and medi-vac, the other is to work on their phones. :) :)

Went to a new interesting place.

For those of you LDS peoples you probably know of this place but I had to take a load of propane up to the Heber summer camp. The road going up there is 10% grades for 4 miles. Doesn't sound like much in a car or jeep but in a big truck its intimedating.
Here is a video coming back down. Its kind of boring and doesn't really show how steep it is but you can get a feel for how narrow the road is.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DMDQFkCg9A

The place they had me deliver to was nuts. They told me to take an extra liquid hose. I should have had two extra.
In order to get close enough to the bulkhead to unload I had to back my truck off the side of the road to the very edge of tipping it over.

Even then I have the hoses stretched so tight it took two of us to stretch them out enough to hook up.

Besides, who needs a spotter? I put it there on purpose. It was the only way the hoses would reach.

How many gallons did you unload into their tank and what is the "temperature correlated" capacity of your tank?

Man, you are going to make me work. The water capacity of my tank is 10400 gallons. At 55 degrees(gas temp) I took them 9336 gal and it filled that tank to 90%

The first tank I went to up there was a 12,00 gal tank that had 30% in it. I took it up to 83%(company policy states we can't fill them higher than 85%

That left me with around 2700 gal so I took it to another tank. It was already at 75% and I filled it to 85%. This left me with about 700 gallons and I took it to the Suburban propane in Heber City proper where I put it into a 18,000 gal tank that was at 71% and moved it a whole 1% to 72%

Need any more details Tom? ya nerd. :D :D :D

That may look gay but its imperative to have on there. Bugs are hard to wash off a window that sits 10 off the ground and they really keep the bugs off.
