Hey, where's the rear hatch switch that turns on the interior lights when the hatch is opened?

Last time I had this problem, it turned out to be the switch on the light housing. Replaced it, and it worked.

This time, bulb was burnt out. Replaced bulb. Rear light comes on with other doors, but doesn't turn on lights when rear hatch is opened. Even replaced the switch on the housing again, and it still doesn't work. My guess is that the switch in the hatch is broken. Anybody have any idea where it is? is it a mercury switch, or what?

Thanks!

It's not a mercury switch, but it's built into the latch mechanism itself, actuated when the latch releases. A nice location for rust and crud to build up. If you've tried all the other alternatives, the next step is panel off, latch out. Sometimes you can clean it up and restore the contacts.

Oh ok. The latch button works but I cant turn the key if I stick it into the lock. Any ideas on that as well?

I do have keyless entry so it isn't a problem.

WD-40. Apply liberally.
