So it appears I am going to have to "clearance" the alternator bracket. Can someone give me a clue as to where I need to grind?

Try this. It is a Denso alternator instead of a Mean Green.

I would have tried it but, I have the mean green "Direct bolt on replacement" in hand! I am thinking it will bolt right on after I grind some bracket away. The directions say so. The advertisement does not!

I installed a Mean Green alternator last year. My bracket ended up looking
just like the one in techno's link.
Direct bolt on I guess only means the bolt holes line up.

Looks like I need about 3/16th to get a good fit. That pic looks dramatic. Any idea how much was removed?

I do not think anyone who did that mod measured how much they took off. Usually it is a 'grind and test fit until you are satisfied' type of mod. At least, that is what I did when I installed the Grand Cherokee alternator.

I eventually just pulled the bracket off and it was way easy to see where it was hanging up. Not much grinding needed.
