View Full Version : Is towing a 2900 lb boat enough to stretch main leaf eyes??

1996 XJ classic, c8.25, RC 6.5 inch LA kit

My main leafs from Rough Country are sliding off the bushings on the front mounts. The leaf is now rubbing on my frame.

RC says they have never heard of this happening. Although the replaced my first leafs once no questions asked for the same issue.

Somehow the bushing is staying centered on the bolt and the eye is opening up. The leaf is sliding out and rubbing.

So my question is, "Can towing cause this?"

I have no other answers. Chariot Springs in Fontana said the bushings should NEVER move.

I am no where near the 5k lb limit of the rig.

I doubt RC built their leafs with towing in mind. It could cause it but I doubt it, what is the tongue weight of the trailer? You need to realize once you change the suspension or anything OEM with an aftermarket part your designed ratings are going to change. Do you have pictures of the trailer hooked up to the Jeep?
