Hi all,

Just back from Northwest fest and had another great time. Here is my one photo, I suspect this is the cosmic payback for the little gangster that was incited to deliver the junk shot to Rich:loveu:

...but wasn't that funny:spin1:

Here's some pics I took...didn't get many this year due to several unfortunate events on my part, but some is better than nothing.

Matt, I take it YOU broke a shaft? How did everything work out? Rotor too it looks...how'd you fix that?

And to those who knew about my engine/fuel issues Friday, which were fixed Saturday, my Jeep shut off on me today 100ft from home...I've yet to figure out what it is but she'll crank all day long. Looks like my rig will be parked for awhile.

His bearing seized on the highway on the way home. I think this means he needs to upgrade to a Dana 60, breaking Dana 44 shafts on the highway is hardcore.

Thanks for the photo's Scott sorry to hear of the continued problems. The shaft let go just short of the Chinook pass summit heading home. There was a loud bang and the wheel sheared off at highway speed.

All things considered we are very lucky.

The vehicle was flat bedded to ACRO for a proper diagnosis and repair. While waiting on the side of the highway many of the great people from NAXJA stopped to offer assistance. Everything from tows to axle swaps were suggested.

In total about 12 people stopped to offer assistance including everyone from ACRO. It is great to be able to wheel with good people and know that the support network is there. Reminds me that I am still running the steering that you gave me at Reiter.

I look forward to being able to help out in the future and thank the group for the support.

Best Regards,
Matt

Mud Springs 696 is the name. Easy trail with two harder obstacles. If you don't like off-camber, find another trail to run.

im not sure of what it was called, hans was navigating, im sure someone else can give their input that was with us

I believe it was Mud Springs and it was an AWESOME trail. It was a lot boring at first but then the fun started. We did 8 miles in 8-hours according to GPS

Here's part of what I took. I have to get Tuesdays and Wednesdays pictures from Los Lobos. Some suck, but what can you expect from a $40.00 camera with a teenager at the controls.

We headed up Mud springs on Thursday, but didn't get many shots. We hit snow after awhile.
http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m265/RlCHARD-CRANlUM/NWFest%202010/SUNP0012.jpg

I think I was about to be assaulted by a snowball when I turned around to get this pic. It's hard to see, but there was a devious look on the face of the foiled hooligan.
http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m265/RlCHARD-CRANlUM/NWFest%202010/SUNP0021.jpg

We made it through a lot of snow only to be denied by a narrow off-camber section. I was surprised how well the Mad Dogs did in the crappy wet snow.

http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m265/RlCHARD-CRANlUM/NWFest%202010/SUNP0026.jpg
I thought I was going to have to winch to turn around, but the tires really did a good job.
http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m265/RlCHARD-CRANlUM/NWFest%202010/SUNP0027.jpg

Better than the Boggers...
http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m265/RlCHARD-CRANlUM/NWFest%202010/SUNP0031.jpg

I didn't check the pressure, but they were aired way down.
http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m265/RlCHARD-CRANlUM/NWFest%202010/SUNP0032.jpg

We turned around, and tried the trail from the other end.

http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m265/RlCHARD-CRANlUM/NWFest%202010/SUNP0039.jpg

We got denied by the snow again, and headed back.

That night we headed up to Raven's Roost for some poser shots.

http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m265/RlCHARD-CRANlUM/NWFest%202010/SUNP0110.jpg

Then we went to Moon Rocks.

I broke a hub and had to be winched out. Thankfully everyone in the Friday moderate group came to the rescue. One broke an axle joint in the process. That ended my day, and left me with a funny angle on my steering wheel and two broken hubs. Again, thanks to those who helped(I'm terrible with names).

On Saturday I led a hard run up Kaner to Manastash Ridge to Shoestring to Tipover to Tripod Flat to Summit, to the rocks. It would've gone smoother if Los Lobos didn't have to run a damaged rig back to camp. He's 1000 times better navigator than me. Between my son and I, we were able to endeavor to persevere.
Most of the pictures didn't turn out.

I don't think it technically defines a "tow point" and does not exclude using an axle as a tow point.

Why do you support steel cable? By now, the advantages to synthetic rope are rather obvious and have been spoken about in many places for quite some time.

Let's just be mature about how opinions are displayed...a burning logo of a large club sponsor with no explanation as to why probably isn't the best way.

But then again, thanks for the advertisement. Keep the posting coming. ;)

I want to thank not only the chapter folks that put so much time into making this a real great event, but all the great sponsors that stepped up with some great raffle prizes.
Personally thanks to Rustys Offroad (240.00 gift cert), Froehlich Suspention Tech ( new 3-link suspention), and Master Pull ( 85 ft Winch Rope w/ Fairlead) and NAXJA (Hat). I was lucky enough to come home with all these great prizes on top of an EPIC weekend of wheelin with a great group of people.
Thanks again for making this a very memerable event, may there be many more to come.

Once again, lots of great pics. Jose, for the record, the wooden bridges were built and installed through the dedication and hard labor of different 4x4 volunteer groups over the years. It's important that we stay on them, as continued tearing up of the soft swampy land they were intended to keep our trails out of will lead to problems, including possible closure of said trails. I know it's cool to fart around on different lines and such in the woods, but it shouldn't involve tearing up the intended bypasses at the bridges. I communicate with and deal with the rangers out of Cle Elum frequently, they constantly ask me to block bypasses while we're out on the trails. Continued use of the bypasses has always been a big no-no. Staying on the trails (and bridges) is a very important part of our continued usage of said trail systems. I'm not trying to personally attack you here, just pointing out something that should be important to all of us.

Thanks,

Doug

Strongly agree with everything you said, BUT that bridge is in BAD shape. Are there any work parties planned? It's in dire need of repair. All of the boards on the ramp side of the bridge have come off, and the angled supports for the ramp still have the very large nails sticking out, and would definitely kill a tire if spun at just the wrong time. We used the bridge, but it was not easy getting up there without spinning the tires on the exposed nail heads.

Its great because it really makes your suspension articulate through its range.
It shows how minimal lift, good flex, and a good line maintains tire contact to the terrain.
This is a great place for mild wheelers to get more comfortable with a little crawling.

The line is kind of hidden on the top left of Funny Rocks.
You can see the rest of the rigs watching the real action at the crack, etc, below.

For the fellas commenting on the bridge, im not flinging poo here but that bridge is unaccessable as John said. The hole leading up to that bridge has gotten progressively deeper and was over two feet deep. It has been bypassed for the last two years that I have been playing there. It takes big tires and lockers to even attempt to access. Maybe we need to do a work party to assist the local club that maintains the trail.

Thanks to everyone for there great pictures!!!

Yeah, I wasn't there and wasn't attempting to pass judgement, just passing on the philosophy we should try to adhere to. If you guys could give me the trail number and approximate mileage/% in the trail where the bridge is located I'll send Mikki Douglas a note regarding that bridge's state of disrepair.

That's going to be towards the top of Kaner Flats (676), just before the Lilly Pond. It's the last bridge crossing if I remember correctly.

I believe that the bypass around that bridge has been used for at least 5 years! I have seen people stuck coming off that bridge in years past.

we had fun there a couple years ago on the "epic" run where we missed dinner. I got hung up on my rear hitch with 33s, that hole is pretty deep.

I dipped my 35's in to see how bad it was...as soon as I dropped the front end I said screw that, the water was easily half way up my tires and the drop off was pretty steep.

Backing up even became difficult.
