I have both my cable and my net through comcast, I think they cover the better portion of the state. I think its right about 100 per month for both, but might be more ( my wife pays the bill).
Hope that helps, welcome home

If you don't want comcast, there is also DirectTV.
How does it go:
Extended cable and Internet just under $100

Regular price on Comcast 6mbps net is about $43 a month, but they might still be running the $33 a month special, tv varies depending upon channel lineup. Limited basic (2-32, plus a couple of others) runs about $15 and it just goes up from there. I believe Willamette Broadband is the only other provider in the western part of the state, but there coverage area is kinda odd and I've got no idea of what their prices run.

Speakeasy ADSL: 8 static IPs, honest 768kbps up/1.5Mbps down (but I've seen over 6Mbps down), 2 hops out of their network, better uptime than the power company (needed a card reset at Covad's DSLAM once in 5 years, down for 15min), top notch tech support 24/7 (rarely needed), zero restrictions on how I use my bandwidth and it's not shared with my neighbors. $105/month. Oh, and no landline/phone company BS cause the copper loop is leased by Covad for me.

I pay $57 for Comcast High Speed Cable internet and Basic cable combined in Marysville (I have had it for at least 3 years if that matters).
I pay over $100 just for Satelite Internet (so called high speed) at my house in Stanwood (Direct TV, to add TV to it would be at least $40 more). I have a TV antenna on the roof (much better than the bunny ears on the TV) for free. And we have a Netflix acct to make up for the TV antenna :)

Michael, how bad is the latency on the sat connection? Quick math says the ping times should be around 1 sec (round trip to L1 orbit times 2), is that about right?

Just because I am a rocket scientist doesn't mean I understand anything about computers and connections. I do know that they have advertised speeds both up and down (1 is significantly faster than the other). To be honest, It has worked pretty well since I have figured out it's glitches (it's kind of like driving a british car;)
I would say that 95% of the time it is very close to as good as Cable or DSL. Obviously VERY expensive to pay off the equipment. If I had the choise of either Cable or DSL, I would have gone that way, but when you live in the boonies you don't always get the choice.
I believe that Al Gore invented the Internet while he was in Alaska!!

A little under 500ms latency if you don't mix up the units. This is the sort of mistake that crashes mars probes into planets ...

as a former direcway installer I can tell you this.
The transmit side is weak due to FCC regs on power levels. a heavy cloud cover is usually enough to disturb it, unless you're installer was real good and cross pol'd it well.
Rain kills the upload.
latency is between 5-800 ms.
hardware is good with the new 7000 series and up, but it's ust the nature of the beast to have high latency. Transfer speeds are usually in the 2mb range.
There are many satellites, but most have a low angle, so if you have any trees to the south you'll likely have a problem.

Well, I live in a small gully, I have very large tree's surrounding me, It is cloudy here about 400 days out of the year and rains about 365 of them.
The installed couldn't get as many sat as he wanted, and he was concerned about several tree's and thought we should pull them down.
Mine is a Direcway (I guess they got bought out now) 7000 series. I have almost long enough to pay off the equipment charges but "most" of the time it is not significantly worse than dsl or cable for normal webwheeling. The only time I have significant issues is when it is really windy (a handfull of days a year).
In my opinion it is ONLY a solution for those that have NO other option and have someone else to pay for it:) It is FAR better than dialup!!
