MWC Unofficial Wheeling Trip-Hannibal Rocks ORP August 14/15th

Ok gang, I have been talking with BOB and we are going to put together an unofficial wheeling trip to Hannibal Rocks ORP on August 14th and 15th. There are going to be RROCK events on the 14th and SheRock events on the 15th, but on both days the trails are said to be open for wheeling. There are 2 campgrounds that I found during a Google search and one sounds like it sucks and the other has decent reviews. This should give a few more of our more westerly members a closer place to come out and meet and greet with the other members and BOD in attendance.

As with any run, please familiarize yourself with the rules for MWC functions and the rules for the park as well.

I spoke with a coworker that lives in Hannibal and he said that he called over to Injun Joe's Campground and they are located 1 mile from Hannibal Rocks ORP. My friend said it is a bit run down/redneck-ish but it has the camper and tent spots by each other and they have an area off ot the back that would keep us and our late night camp fires away from other visitors possibly. They do have a pool as well, which may be a nice added feature since it will be mid August in Missouri! :D Prices range from $22-29 per night he said. I can not find any website that is functioning for this place, so it may be a real dive.

He also said the owner told him there is a powerline trail that leads to the ORP, but we would need to talk with the park owner about using it if we wanted to drive some of the non-street legal rigs down there.

just wanted to throw this info out there for ya all.

Well as it turns out I will be in MO for the entire week before this, for a little vacation. Then back to IN, then load up again for the Hannibal Rocks trip and drive back. I might try to push back the first trip by a week so I can roll it all into one trip, but it would only save me about $20 in fuel since I'd have to pull the trailer everywhere.

Plus I have from now until this trip to do a little engine swappage... free time and funds are tight. But I am going to try like hell to make it!

Maybe if I'm trying to swap a motor I shouldn't spend a week out in the sticks fishing, shooting, and drinking... ah well.

I think I am going to count on the tired 318 to get me through one more wheeling trip and swap motors after that. I just got off the phone w/ Debbie from Hannibal Rocks. She is super nice and helpful. She said that they would indeed have open trails both days of the 14th ad 15th. There will be free camping at the park, but it is primative. I asked her about Injun Joes Campground and she said it was not too bad and has all the facilities and a pool. She did comment that the Mark Twain Campground was WAY nicer, but it was 5-7 miles away. She said if any rigs were not street legal, do not try to drive them up the shoulder of the highway b/c there is a good chance of getting in trouble with the po-po. The events are both Saturday and Sunday and teh Sunday events are SheROCK and proceeds go to teh Susan G Harding (?) Foundation (cancer I believe). So, it is officially and un-official run! Whhooooo-hooooooo, get yo cheese on!

Well... got sick of the Jeep being down. Said eff it and got a cheapo radiator at Autozone, this time made sure it wasn't bound up and hopefully won't split. Also got the fan shroud back on, which is something I didn't really care about until I didn't have it.

Meanwhile, my buddy Neal's XJ blew a radiator hose and possibly lost a water pump, so I'll let him borrow the ZJ for the next week while I'm in southeast MO for vacation. Then another week to get misc crap around and I'll be rollin' out for Hannibal.

I think I am gonna hold out and do the Harlan, ky trip with hoebag. If you do this trip when it is Cooler I might be down. I have no AC so it would be a 6 and half out sauna trip in the waggies LOL.

You are gonna compare driving with no AC in Wi too Ky. Ppppplease. This place it Hotter and more Humid. I sweat my balls off on the 20 min drive from work. I have no floor insulation and I found out that on just 2hour drives I can burn a hole in my leg on the tranny bell housing area. (went to Badlands in July). Anyway besides all that I have kids to think of and hearing them wine about the Heat is worse than me wining in the heat lol. Like I said once it gets cooler then I am down.

I have a portable room AC that I am bringing along, will make that camper an icebox in about 30 minutes! I also got a new fridge for it since it just had an ice box. Got a new mini microwave for it as well. As long as I have a good extensoin cord and the cheese machine I am good :D

Just made our reservation at the Hannibal Inn for Sat night.
We'll arrive Sat morning.
Gonna help a racer during the day but will try to get some wheeling in too.
After getting all hot and sweaty during the day will head to the hotel for a dip in the pool.
Then planning on stopping by Injun Joe's for the festivities around the campfire.
Should be good times if I can get the image of cheese-man in a thong outta my head :D

Hmm it looks like the address I posted before for the campground may not be correct, does anyone know for sure what it is? The Hannibal Convention and Visitors Bureau listed it as 14193 Clemens Dr., Hannibal, MO and the phone as (573) 985-3581. I figure if the town itself doesn't have the correct info, nobody does.

Camille and I are camping for sure, JR and Kelli are still not sure due to the heat. They did tell me to reserve a spot for them regardless b/c they need a place to park their trailer and Jeep over night. I am thinking that Curt and Brenda, BOB and Dawn, Austin and his Dad are all for sure staying in hotels. I am not sure what Craig and Stacys plans are. I am staying at Injun Joes Friday and Saturday nights and will be bringing my swimsuit for sure (maybe a thong, maybe not :dunno: ) We are anticipating arriving between 6-7:30. Could be earlier on either side of that.

The real question is..to bring teh nacho machine or not??? Now that is the question!

Not short on miles for me, but yea it still is a weekend run. I'm really fine with whatever, if we wanna save the turkeys and cheese for another run that's OK with me. I'm bringing Aaron and a local buddy and now we're considering getting a hotel just to enjoy some A/C at night if it's going to be so hot out. I've got Aaron as a designated driver so I can still get my fill at the campground festivities. :D

So yea, if anyone knows the popular hotel and the nightly rate then I'll decide whether we're camping or going to a hotel. Also does anyone know if this hotel would be OK with a trailer being parked out there? May want to drop it off and bring just the truck back. Otherwise leaving the trailer out at the campground may not be a bad idea. If they stick you out in the back of the campground then maybe they won't notice. :)

The reviews of the place say the indoor pool is the best thing at the hotel.

Well it's between the Super 8 and the Hannibal Inn, I do like the special RROCK rate. I'll do some calling tomorrow. But damn that A/C is sure sounding nice so I think we'll go the hotel route.

I just made reservations at the Hannibal Inn. It is cheaper then Super 8 and it has plenty of trailer parking according to them. It is only $59.99 per night...that is hella cheap....it is only about $25 more then staying in the camper..and I will make that much up for not hauling the camper down via fuel savings. Not sure where we will have a fire, but something can be thought up.....maybe meet up at Hannibal Rocks since they are having a free camping weekend there (primative)...you know there will be a fire somewhere!

I have a creaking sound coming from the front end and not sure what it is...might be the new ball joint that I smacked w/ a sledge hammer to get in place :dunno: Everything else other then brakes and the battery are good to go...I think.

If the pedal drops, there aren't any leaks and you're 110% sure ALL the air is bled out, then it is probably the MC. Do you really live that far out she has to drive 3 hours for parts!?

we bled it for about 30 minutes of good fluid w/ no bubbles or air. the nearest autopart place that has one in stock is Columbia, Mo and it is about 3 hours from our place. There are closer auto parts places but they are all 1-2 days out of getting anything if ordered in the morning...and Camille wants to go to the "big city" to go shopping anyhow :D

u could run my 36" spare haha! I have the Jeep loaded up and the trailer is on the truck. I have all my parts and tools in the shop and ready to throw in in the morning. I will have a hi lift with me as well and a 4-way too. probably leave them at the truck to save space and if needed someone can surely run me back to get them. it was hotter then hell todayt and got ina bit of wheelin, JR had a problem with his YJ and everyone was there to lend a hand and he really saw what the MWC is all about (and drinking in the parking lot). few local guys in an XJ were more then helpful and jumped right in to help out, good fellas. It was still a good time to get out and wheel even as little as it was. The hotel pool felt great, the company is even better and we are off for a nice dinner with everyone in about an hour......well worth the trip and to get to see everyone again.
