Which 4.0 for the most go?

I have three XJ's to choose an engine out of. A 91 H.O. , a 98 model, and a 00 model. All three run and drive, but I would like to rebuild one of the engines to make a stronger runner. The 98 and 00 both have verrry clean bodies. What if any combo of the three would make the strongest runner, wheeler?

Well, do you want dist-less and the new intake manifold? If so, then the 2K (check the head casting). Else, I guess the '98 as you could easily upgrade the intake manifold and no head cracking worries. The '91 would be my last choice, unless it could be had cheap--more of a hassle to upgrade intake if that's a concern.

I already have all three Jeeps. Was just curious about the best performer, or if a combo of the three would be the best bet.

ya if you already have these at your disposal grab the 98, stick the 00 intake manifold on it and get the best of both worlds.
