Friend of mine offered me a free 4.0L short block from a 93 Grand, he used the head for his 258 CJ. Its got a crowned piston, but the block is good, would make a good start to a stroker. Only thing is I fear my parents will disown me if I bring another hunk of metal into the garage.
Is it worth living in the Jeep to get a free engine?

it depends. how much would you spend purchasing a junkyard complete motor vs. how much to procure a different roof over ones head?
how about asking them and see if they mind. the worst they could say is no, and then your no worse off than you are right now!

hell, I just bought a whole parts jeep just for the non-disco dana 30. I need to strip it in 1 weekend and get it out by monday morning. my engine runs fine, I have no room for another 4.0 h.o. w/headers/aw4/242. but they all have less then 50K miles. I think Ill be sleeping on the beach in my parts truck!

Go spend $90 on a decent engine stand, at least that way you will be able to move it out of the way in the garage. Downside is, heads are expensive. At least if you have a whole engine you can send the head out to have it done. Personally I would pass.
