Just wondering if anyone can tell me if there any differences in the electronics that would effect different year models of the XJ... looking to do a tranny swap from an '88 into a '93.

Thanks for the info

Josh

The eletronics are different (ECU) but the transmission is the same accept for the output shaft spline count, that could be different.

Any idea on where I could get a new ECU for the '93... also, anybody got any definite data on the spline counts for the different year models?

Thanks again

The electronics are the same, and it will plug right in. The electronics change in 97.

The output shaft is 21 spline for 87-90 and 23 spline for 91+, so you will need a matching t-case. The 4th gear ratio also changed from .705 (87-90) to .75 (91+), but that's not a big deal.

Maybe he's swapping in the AW4 in place of a manual? If that's the case, the engine computer may also need to be swapped as the manual version of the pcm doesn't have the TPS output that goes to the TCU.

If you need one, I have a 1992 AW4 TCU that I pulled last week that should work. $25 plus shipping. They normally go for $30-40 on eBay, but I prefer to give naxja guys a price break. I also have two TCUs from a 1990 if anyone needs one.
