K40 antenna question about removed antenna

I just installed a K40 antenna ( the full whip 54'' type manetic base) and for clearance and security reasons I have removed the antenna at the point that detaches...

Leaving the antenna part off cause any issues with water getting into the base?

should I uninstall the whole antenna if I am not using it? Or find some type of cover that can go over the base connection?

I would assume that they have made it well weather proofed and out of materials that won't oxide or rust... just want to make sure I take care of my new investment.

Yep, that last one is the part to use.

FWIW, I've left my antenna off for most of a couple of years, and as long as I kept re-greasing it, it was ok.

Also, that cap (or at least the one I had) didn't fit as tight as the antenna did.
