View Full Version : Bleeding the clutch on an 88 Audi 80

I changed out the clutch master and slave on my friends 88 Audi 80 Series. Now the system needs to be bled and I have never bled a clutch (although I have done brakes many times). I really need a vaccume pump, but I also read it can be done by opening the bleeder screw on the slave and the left front caliper, connecting them with clear tube, and pumping the brakes to back feed the air out of the clutch line and eventually out the resivour. All the while making sure the resivour stays full and topped off.

Does this sound about right to you? Am I missing something major here?

And for some reason Audi decided the brakes/clutch should share a resivour.

This was the recommended procedure for my Mercedes 220D. I never tried it, because I have a vacuum pump which works just fine. The one thing I'm not sure of is whether or not you have to close the caliper bleeder between strokes. I'll try to look it up later.
