Looks like there's going to be quite a few of us heading up to Naches from the Portland area this year.

So when is everyone leaving, what route are you taking, and when are you coming home?

Hopefully we can get a convoy or three organized for the trip up.

Also, who's going to be pulling a trailer or have some extra space? For some odd reason I'm going to have a lot more junk to yard up there this year. :D

I took the 24th - 28th off (Thursday-Monday)
will be 2 jeeps (girlfriends and mine)
looking to get a small trailer like last year, not sure yet.

I'm looking to follow...

I would recommend either a Wednesday or Thursday departure. That would allow you to set up camp, unwind, maybe explore a bit, and then be ready for to hit the trails hard on Friday morning.

I'm stoked there's so many South end guys heading up this year.

Tuesday the 22nd works for me.

I'll meet you guys at Cascade Locks in the morning like usual.

However, if the consensus was to leave on Monday I could do that too. ;)

Who's game for a thursday morning departure?

Central meeting place in PDX? We will need someone that knows the route.. I've never been.

Also.. im 95% i'll have a 4x8 trailer about 75% full. if someone wants to relieve some elbow space after we meet up..I'd be okay with it.

So speaking of routes, does anyone know the update on the 410 land slide?

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/ABPub/2009/10/11/2010044857.jpg

I know there's a detour road in place, but how long does it take to get around it?

Original article can be found here (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2010044629_webmudslide11m.html).

The slide area is further east on 410....past the turn onto Little Naches RD. There is a detour in place so if you are coming from the Yakima side you will be fine. If you guys from PDX come up Hwy 12 from I-5, turn onto Hwy 123 just past Packwood. That will take you to Hwy 410 just below the top of Chinook pass. When you hit Hwy 410, turn and head up the and over the pass. Hope this helps

It looks like the detour is roughly five miles long. As long as the road doesn't wash out, we should be fine.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for. I think we can manage a few extra miles.

97: Pretty much after the gorge it's just rolling hills and fruit stands. It's probably the quicker route with less traffic though.

12: Might take a little longer and have a bit of traffic on I5, but the scenery makes up for it.

How fast do you all expect the convoy to be? We will be towing a big ass trailer with lots of stuff. I don't expect we will be breaking any sound barriers or speed laws. Especially up the hills across the Columbia.

I was thinking of bailing on the meet up and just leaving earlier and heading on up.. I don't want to slow anyone down.

Here is the route we took last year, worked well. I didn't see any links in the info section for southbound.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=12630896467893237652,47.579610,-122.168910;7113268140760776968,47.567440,-122.179430;17448899413761022303,46.989462,-121.096210;12025718642191219127,47.007520,-121.127010;16586329841018448903,47.013755,-121.132775;1798371366708129014,47.014676,-121.135462&saddr=Factoria+Blvd+SE/Richards+Rd+SE+%4047.579610,+-122.168910&daddr=Coal+Creek+Pkwy+SE+%4047.567440,+-122.179430+to:WA-410++%4046.989462,-121.096210+to:NF-1900+%4047.007520,+-121.127010+to:NF-1900+%4047.013755,+-121.132775+to:47.014673,-121.135812&mra=dme&mrcr=3&mrsp=5&sz=15&via=1&sll=47.012098,-121.135297&sspn=0.012261,0.026608&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=15&num=10

Then Just Follow Johns excellent directions -
[Starting from Little Naches Rd] go past the Kaner Flats campground about .5 mile. You'll see a left turn over a large concrete bridge going over the river. Take that left, go up approx. .25 miles, as the road turns to the left and goes from paved to gravel, there's a SHARP left turn into the camping area. Follow it in a couple hundred yards, the road will wind down a little ways and then open up into a large open field where the road splits and goes down both sides. We'll be camped in that general area, you won't be able to miss us.

I should be at the Meet up location. However, if we somehow end up packed and ready to go 3 hours early. I can't sit and wait.. the kids will drive me crazy... Although.. that never happens. :) early.. ya right..
