Hey all

The blower motor/fan in my Jeep quit working last week.

Here's the work I've done thus far based off the info I got from searching:

I don't have a vaccum leak.

The fuse is not blown

I did recently install a new stereo, I checked, the connector on the blower controls are securely installed.

I replaced the blower motor after testing the old one and verifying that it would not turn on.

So, this leads me to there either being a bad switch, or bad wiring... which is more likely, and what's the best way to determine which is bad? Its a 94 Cherokee with 112k on it.

Thanks in advance.

My fan suddenly and unexpectedly with most of my controls quit working. Mine was the ignition swith. not the lock and tumbler but the switch. It is located near the fire wall on top of the stearing column. there are several wires that plugg into it, This is what you controls are running off of. I cant remember how much it was but i think it was under thirty. not to bad of a price. If you have questones You can contact me, But it sounds lokew that could be your problem.

Interesting... I'll check that out. Any way to bypass it to test if that is the problem?

If you replaced the speakers, you may have disturbed a ground wire for your fan motor. This happened to me recently, and I almost caught my Jeep on fire. Check your grounds if you replaced speakers.

Didn't do speakers, just a head unit.

Find a wiring diagram for your rig, and see where your blower motor makes it ground. Then check that wire.

Your dealership will have this. Make friends with one of the guys there, and then peek into his FSM.

It is the dam switch! I have gone through 3 of them in between my 2 jeeps! Try to stick a wedge on the LEFT side of the switch. And then turn the switch up. (That is if this is a 84-96 XJ)

The ignition switch, or the switch in the heater controls?

Unplug your connector from the blower motor and loop the test light in place! if every thing is working right the test light should be dim on low and bright on high.
If not then check to see if it is the ground that is missing or the power!
when you have this much info, them you can start to search in the right direction!
I could be Wrong but i thing the power gos directly from the ign to the blower motor and the ground side is were the low med high go before it is grounded!

Fixed it... the culprit was a knocked out connector from the stereo install.

For future search reference, there are 2 electrical connectors on the back of the HVAC controls. on the Left, there is the speed control. In the middle right is a connector that controls the air direction. That one was knocked out.

Thanks for all the help.
