hey all,
my XJ takes a long time to start, and has horrible blow by and also gets a little gas in the oil pan, i have always known that its probly got bad rings and lots of piston slap and i never let it bother me since it runs like a champ and gives me 17mpg on 35s with 4.88s.
yesterday i was changing the waterpump which failed me horribly and when i was putting the serpentine belt back on i found out that i can turn the crankshaft by hand just by pulling on the belt. i can turn the power steering pulley by hand and turn the crankshaft with little diffuculty, i dont even need a wrench.
needless to say, a leakdown test would show that i dont hold any compression at all over a few hours time.
i am saving up for a stroker (:

not to completely turn this thread on to a new subject but dis any one have links to stroker kits and how to's of what is required to do this!
I want to do my own kit not by a stroked eng.
is there any clearancing of the crank or block to do a stroker kit?
I have heard that you us a 4.2 L eng crank(carb. old jeep 6 syl)
Do you us the rods for the 4.2 or 4.0
EDIT and my 89 has 312,000 and has a long crank time to but once it fire it run fine!!!!
is there a link that give detail instruction on how to do it?
Is there more then one stoke choice?
Thanks, flash

My 89 with over 250k miles had the same issue...bad compression and sever blow-by to the point where oil was dripping from my K&N filter! I had to top off the oil once a week and put a catch pan under my filter to catch the dripping oil!
I had a local repair shop put in a Jasper. engine, and installation complete for about $3k plus a decent warrantee that I have had to use, but only once...
