View Full Version : MWC Redbird Trail Clean Up

I noticed that things could use some tidying up on the trail at Redbird this weekend. We seen everything from beer cans to tire/wheels to hoods. There is also places that could use a little shovel time to drain some of the massive holes. We could talk to management to see what they wanted/needed done. I'd like to have a trail clean up sometime this spring. IMO, we as a chapter need to do more activities like this. No since in doing it in the dead of cold, might as well wait till it warms up, maybe this comming spring. Maybe clean up one day and wheel the next. I tossed out the idea to others this weekend and it seemed to be well recieved. Might be handy to have an ATV/UTV or two when we do this too. Maybe even the chapter could provide hotdogs for lunch for us and the Redbird staff. Let me know what you guys think. I think it'd be a great way to show our apperciation and support.

I think that's an excellent idea. When we were out last time I tossed an empty oil container and some otehr stuff in the back of mark's MJ. Seems that some of the hillbillies just chuck trash out.

I mentioned it to the gate attendent when I was leaving. He said that would be great. I also asked him about the lack of trash can problem. He said that they're trying to get a dumpster for the sights, but the policy is "Pack it in Pack it out" thats why they don't have any trash cans. I said, "If we where to help to provide some would the staff keep them empty". He said, "I don't know". I feel regardless of the policy the cans should be provided as long as the volonteer staff will empty them. I think people will be more apted to put the trash in a receptacle rather than just toss it. At the least we could look into helping provide the dumptster.

Regardless of a dumpster or trash barrels, we should put the MWC insignia on them.

Forget the trash cans and dumpsters. They are too expensive, and we don't go to redbird enought to justify the expense. That is something that should be provided by a local club that is there more often.
A clean up is a great idea. We would need dumpsters there that day, which is easy enough to arrange, and not terribly expensive for a one time thing. How would we pay for them? Is there money allocated for events that could be used? Would a shop sponsor it?

We have money in the treasury that might be available. Needs to be discussed further among the BOD, maybe after Winterfest. It'd be nice if we could maybe catch a discount from one of those dumpster rental places in exchange for mentioning them in a writeup for the NAXJA & UFWDA newsletters as well as a local paper.

Open top barrels won't work either. They'll need to have a flat metal lid with a handle. They are not hinged, just a lift it up and toss in garbage lid, usually secured to an adjcent post with a chain. Open top barrels will be a varmint attractant, trash would scattered everywhere. Coons and such can't get into them with the lids. That's the way they have them at the local parks here and it seems to work.

I may have access to some plastic or metal 55 Gal Drums, plastics had floor cleaner and WW fluid(windshield washer), I know I can get several of these, although the metal ones had lucas oil stabilizer in it, they do come with lids that are fastened with metal bands. Need to know where this Redbird park/trail is located, I have a trailer I could tow some of these to there if need be. By the way, thanks Mark for leading me to this forum, looks like several persons are leading me to lift my XJ to clear some 31's.

Yep ... a DC.
The hydraulic pump (I believe) is from an early 50's model Case and the 3-point is farmfabbed. I got this tractor from my Great Uncle several years ago, and this had been installed when I got it. AFAIK ... Everything else is original outside of new paint and decals.
It was a clean-up/restore project I did a couple years ago. I like antique tractors ... if I had the money, it'd be another hobby. :)

Thats what has been done to dads SC. He still uses it to power augers because of the hand cluch, and the throttle being low. Nice to not have to climb up on the tractor to start up an auger, and adjust the speed. He also has a Case 630, and a Farmall Super M with hydraulics, and power stearing.
On the Case SC there is a metal piece that goes between the air cleaner and the carb. His rusted out, and he was never able to locate a replacement. You wouldn't happen to know a good place to look for one would you? There is rubber hose on it now, but the gas fumes rott it out over time.

I have used mine in the woods to pull logs, also for mowing, and to maintain my driveway. I was a bit aggravated at myself when I got the exaust pipe into a limb and broke the exhaust manifold at the bend where the pipe attaches. Right now, it is sitting in the barn at my MoM's with the broken manifold, a bad tire, and the hydraulic pump in need of re-building. Too many irons to fire plus the Jeep habit have relegated it to a one-of-these-days project. The hand clutch is a definate plus ... except when trying to back up a trailer ... got contortion?

The DC has a cast oil bath chamber that attaches to the carburator. The air tube attaches to it and runs up through the hood. There is a cap with a screen in it to catch the "big stuff". Is this what you are talking about? To be honest, I don't recall seeing an SC Case to have a picture of what is there. Not too many Case enthusiasts in the local club (which I am not a member). I can ask around though as I know some of the members. Do y'all have a local antique tractor club locally?

Redbird is having a trail cleanup this weekend. I think alot of the atv clubs and IFWDA are going to go. All they want is some branches, downed trees and of course trash cleaned up. If anyone looked at my post about the 33" trxus muds for sale i mentioned that I am in jpfrog offroaders and we have adopted trail 1. They want us to try to haul in some gravel?rocks in there somewhere. There is no charge for this cleenup but I think i't only sat. 3/24. Just wanted to throw this out there for you. Starting to change my mind on this whole trail clean-up thing, and got an idea. Why not spend the time and effort coming up with some sort of trail trash bag with the MWC logo or NAXJA logo on it that we could hand out at each event. Then when we left the park, we would leave a good impression when everyone saw the trash we were hauling out. I know Rural King has custom lawn bags made, they are the thick ones. I've got some connections over there and can make some calls.
Or...

I did, ask mark about all that nasty trash I threw in his bed.
Still though, I don't want to be cleaning up a trail, and be in the way of people trying to run a trail.
I'd rather that they jsut close that trail for the day, and let us clean it without having to worry about other vehicles, and getting out of the way for them.
