No 4low

Hey.

I've been playing around with my 84, and I noticed I can't shift into 4low. In fact, I can't get into the neutral in the transfer case, the shifter just won't move that far. What do you make of that?

Have you tried to shift into 4low and neutral while the transmission is in neutral. Mine will only shift from neutral.

I've tried neutral, in gear, both with clutch and no clutch, brake in and out, car on and off. It just won't go.

If it's been a very long time since it was shifted into 4 low, the linkage itself might simply be too stiff. It has to rock to the right to go past the stop, and if it's rusted solid it won't go. My 95 does the same thing after sitting a long time. Try working the lever sideways to the right when it's in 4 high, and keep rocking it until it frees up. You may have to get under the bezel and attack it with penetrating oil too. The bushing that goes through the hump can get very stiff and make things worse too.

Fixed it, there was this weird latch thing. I chopped it off, and now I can get into 4low great!
