Heater core replacement - 98xj

So I have read around here and searched the internet for help and directions on how to access the housing for the heater core. The jeep I just picked has a busted one and needs replacing (it is leaking in the cabin of the jeep all over the passenger and driver's sides.)
However almost all the information I have found is the 92 FSM directions, and these seem a little lacking on how to get at the box.
I have removed most all of the dash and now looking at taking out the 'unidash' piece that spans the width of the jeep. Is that entirely necessary? Or can I get that housing out of there without removing the whole thing?

a/c? pretty much gotta pull the dash almost all the way out. but after that its pretty simple if u dont have a/c

I do have a/c which will add some extra time to the work
