I've got a few questions, my wife's XJ has a nasty squeek when the A/C is on or it is on defrost. Is there a way to rebuild a compressor or do you just have to replace it? If it needs replacing how much does it cost and does anybody have a spare one for a 98'?

Thanks,
Tyler

It's probably your belt squeeling. The A/C compressor puts an extra strain on the belt when it turns on.

Try adjusting the belt tension or replacing the belt

I had the same problem with mine last summer, took off the cheap advanced auto belt and put on a gates and changed my idler pully and then poof like a magic trick it was gone

P.S. it is always cheaper to replace your compressor than rebuild it, and if you buy orifice tube and dryer you get a warranty
