SO I have owned my 99 xj for about a month now and this problem started about 3 weeks ago. It slips as i am pulling away from a stop or as i give it gas at speed, but it drives fin otherwise. Does anyone know what could be wrong and how I could fix it. Thanks.

Look at cable adjustment diagram, see if your cable need adjusting. easy to do, no tools required.
TRANSMISSION THROTTLE VALVE (Kickdown) CABLE
ADJUSTMENT
(1) Shift transmission into Park, shut engine off
and raise hood.
(2) Press cable release button (Fig.29).
(3) Push cable conduit back into cable sheath as
far as possible.
(4) Rotate lever on throttle body to wide open
throttle position. Cable will ratchet to correct adjustment
point as lever is rotated.

*What is history of fluid changes?
*Is fluid level correct on dipstick?
*What color is the fluid? Should be red, replace it if it isn't
*Adjusting your throttle cable as posted is a good idea
*Test your throttle position sensor as it is related to tranny performance/shift quality
