'01 cherokee--crunching sound when making sharp turns

Hi Folks,
Just bought a 2001 Cherokee Limited with 70,000. While making a sharp turn, both left and right in 2WD, I hear a crunching sound coming from under the car. Sounds like it might be coming from one of the differentials or the transfer case, but that's just a guess. It sounds like gears slipping. The front diff was just re-built before I bought it, so it's essentially new. I haven't tried it in 4WD. All fluids are full.

Any ideas what the noise could be?

is it built? could be a locker? hard to tell with this little info. axle u jouints? poor install?

its probably your u-joints starting to go out
