Odd spring...was this OEM

The first photo below is the RE 3.5" Superflex rear spring I put in the Jeep along side the spring I replaced.

The second shot is the original spring before I removed it.

I've been trying to decide if this spring was OEM set up. I can't figure out what the purpose of the weird saggy part is...any ideas?

Looks like a "load helper" add on to me.

The Jeep didn't come with a tow package, and there was no nutcert in the driver's side frame rail, so I doubt there was ever a hitch on it...but your guess makes sense...

The "extra" spring is patina'd and rusted the exact same as the other leafs, which made me wonder if it came from the factory...or if the entire spring pack is aftermarket...
