Brake shoe issues

So this is what I found when I opened up the rear to replace the blow wheel cylinder....
Notice the top shoe, on the right, the folded over piece...compare to the shoe at the bottom

So I guess the question is did this happen before or after the wheel cylinder let go? And why does something like this happen??

wow, thats a first !

seems like something else let go, probably a tension spring broke and it jammed the shoe in place, then when ya hit the brakes the wheel cylinder expanded and put pressure on that mounting point and crushed it over, just a guess ?
