The pride of serving your country is something that will NEVER leave you- Get ready to have your @ss handed to you for two months though ;) I wasn't a Marine (I went Army reserve for 8 years) but I salute your choice to join the ranks. You will learn so much about yourself it's unbelievable. :patriot:

Semper Fi young buck. The Corps will either make you or break you. I have been at it 13+ years. I have loved every minute of it. Good luck!

As I'd hope you know its 3 months of bootcamp and if you played football in HS is no worse than 2 a days practices. You'll be fine and if you're scribe you don't have to do anything in bootcamp. I still got some friends over there in PI. They're in "combat camera" they run around and take pictures of you while you're being eaten alive by sand fleas unable to do anything about it. Have fun OORAH

It's not too late to change your MOS!

Congrats. You will see a different side of you you never knew you had. Just remember it's all in what you make of it, You WILL make some of the best friends of your life in the core. Make sure you take pics of what you can so you can show your kids one day what you did for your country, and for yourself. :patriot:

Unless you got that in writing or you are joining the reserves, your MOS is 03something.

They will let you know what 03something you will be when you finish SOI.

Besides, you wanna be an 0313 anyways....:D

0313 Has a way higher re-enlistment bonus than other 03 jobs FIY. When I joined the Marines I wanted to be infantry, somehow it was closed out and i had to choose something else. I ended up choosing 5811 military Police, and I am glad I did grunts deal with a lot of crap, don't pick up rank fast, and are always playing fuc$ fuc% games. Good Luck

yes i am reserves.

and no way in hell am i gonna be a POG

unfortunatly the company i will be joining just got back from Iraq 15 days ago so i wont be sent there for 3 years. However theres always the possibility of North Korea. Im not doing with for a reenlistment bonus, im doing it becasue i cant stand to sit with all that is going on in the world right now.

Marines tend to send reserves over more often than regular simply because it's cheaper to. And the Marines have no money for shat....ever. We got our new communications equipment from Army and Air Force DRMO (trash) Don't count on it being three years. Also, in your statement you said you felt that you needed to do something about what was going on in the world, if that's the case why'd you go reserve and not active? Just curious.

Good luck and congrats on your choice of branches! Just remember to keep heart and you'll do fine.

Request an overseas duty station for your first duty station. You'll have a blast and never regret doing it first thing.

well, good luck whatever you decide, I would definitely recommend finishing your degree, and then being an officer. Just my opinion, but once you join you will see where I am coming from.

All the best officers I had were prior enlisted. I think it gives you a better feel for what's going on and also you know what its like havin a prick OIC. Ain't nothin wrong with being a pog, neither. Who fixes all the crap you're gonna break, or develops the systems that're gonna keep you alive and in contact with everyone else? I did 5 yrs in the Corps and miss it (almost) everyday. Think about going back sometimes, great camaraderie, pride, benefits. Great experience all around.

P.S. Boot Camp is fun. Just not while you're there. I look back on my boot days and laugh at all the crap they pulled on us and things they made us do. People kept sticking their thumbs out during rifle manual, so SSgt Todd made us all march around, left arm out straight, chanting "Everybody, Look at my thumbs!" for like 10 minutes.
