View Full Version : Different rotors and calipers on Dana 30's?

I bought another Dana 30 with different gears to swap in and I've noticed that the rotors and calipers are bigger on the new one. It supposedly came out of a '93, which is the same year I have. My original axle has 3.07's and the new one has 4.10's so it must have come out of a 4 banger. Anybody seen this before or have details on the differences, etc.?

Are they both HP non-disco 30's?

Now that you mention it, I need to actually look and make sure they're both HP, but they're definitely both non-disco. I'll take a close look once I get home tonight. The junkyard said it came out of a '93, so it should be HP, but I'll make sure.

Yeah, they're both HP.

I have noticed a difference in eariler and later style calipers, and most likely rotors too (haven't measured). My '93 has the calipers that attach with 13mm hex bolts. Most of the older XJ's I see in yards have the calipers that attach with the allen heads. On my '93 the pads clip to the caliper, but the older ones the pads clip to the caliper bracket, then the caliper slides in over them.

Haven't been able to compare sizes though.

Those knuckles are different.
