I got a 94 xj with an oil leak coming from the part that the oil filter screws into. I don't have a manual to look it up either. Does anybody know what this part is called an how tough is it going to be to fix?

shouldnt be that hard i am pretty sure yours is the same as mine and a bolt looking washer is on the side and you just unscrew that and there is an o ring around the base should take about 20 mins to repair with all the parts there.

It's usually referred to as the oil filter adapter, and there is a kit of O-rings that you can get from the dealer for something in the 5 or 6 buck range. Depending on your year, the bolt may have either a T-60 Torx head or an allen head. That bolt is very very tight. You may have difficulty getting it off without modifying the tool. If you do a search here, I think you may find other threads on this. If it's a T-60, try to get a torx bit that is not all in one piece, but has an insert that can be punched out. There's not enough room between the head of the bolt and the frame to use a ratchet wrench once it's cracked loose. If you can remove the bit from its holder, you can then use just the bit with a 12 millimeter wrench to continue undoing the bolt.
On my 95 I had to weld a flat wrench to the bit holder, put a wedge between the wrench and the frame, and use a two foot cheater bar on the wrench, to crack it loose. As I said, it is very very tight!

You can get one from a dealer. Forget how much they were, couldn't have been to bad, I don't remember flinching to bad.
Or you can try your local pick and pull.

94 and 96 will be interchangeable - no problems there. Definitely replace the o-rings though. http://www.yuccaman.com/jeep/filter.html
