Differences in Hoods?

I have a 97 and need a new hood or repaint my old one. I would rather get a spare hood and have some fun with it and then after its finished, throw it on the XJ. are the earlier year XJ hoods compatible with the newer 97-01 XJs? I can get one off an 86 for $30

I think 84-86 may be different but I'm really not sure... measure length and width. I just put a 97+ hood on my 91 MJ and it fit perfectly though, all the styling is the same etc.

the 84 - 86 had the hood latch in the middle while all the 4.0 hoods had 2 latches, one at each the front corners

87-01 are the same latches and all. 84-86 would require different the 2 latches vs single.
