aw4 - 2wd to 4wd

I came across an aw4 that's from a 2wd, and I'm looking for a 4wd. Is it possible to swap some parts over from mine to the rear of the 2wd one to make it a 4wd tranny, or is that either impossible or just a waste of time? Any input is appreciated.

It's probably not worth the effort. There are a lot of good boxes out there for 4WD's that can be had for a couple hundred bucks.

It would mean a complete tear down and rebuild because you have to swap the output shafts- the one on the 2WD transmission is longer than the 4WD variety. It's not just a simple matter of replacing the tail stock with a TC adaptor.

No. You would have to cut the appropriate splines on the new end of the shaft because you just cut the splined end off.
