Finally got around to doing something with the quarter armor that jeepfreak1020 made for me a while back. Got two red LEDs installed in the upper holes, and will be using an amber light in the lower for a turn signal.
Here's a picture I took while I was test fitting them at work. Got them pulled back off and painted up. hoping to get them hooked up completely tomorrow morning.

Got it all installed and wired up today. Going to be adding another reverse light onto the tire carrier and an electronic flasher unit to fix the crack blinker this weekend.

Nope, it's still patiently waiting in my garage while I slowly work towards getting it mobile again.

You don't want a dsm. Fun, good looking, and the 4G63's are easy to mod. But they are tempermental as all hell and you have to worry about....

DSMs are like any vehicle: Treat it nice and it will return the favor. ;)
No CW for me. 6bolt, biooootch!:shhh:

Funny that poster mentions cranks, all my experience with DSM's has lead me to despise the transmissions.
I can't say much though, on my VR6 powered GTI (its a VW) I literally stripped the ring gear off of the carrier (sheared the mounting rivets, yes rivets) and watched it pass me on the interstate. The rest of the transmission internals fell out and bounced in my rearview mirror.

Sounds like a typical VW to me...
DSM trannies are hit or miss when it comes to strength. If you (or a previous owner) put a heavier clutch in a stock tranny, it's going to fail quicker. My tranny is pretty far from stock though... All new cryo-treated gears, double synchros all around, heavier shift forks, welded center diff, ect. ;)

Nice
The VW "ring gear leaving the car in its wake" issue is primarily only on the VR6's. VW rivets the ring gears onto the carriers and it works fine for for stock cars and even mildly tuned 1.8T's because of the inherent turbo-lag of the 1.8T. On VR6's however, there is so much low-end torque that even stock ones (and especially tuned up ones) the rivets don't stand much of a chance.
So your DSM is AWD then, thats awesome.

I like my dsg... nothing better be falling out of my vw... but its soon to be gone for a subaru legacy, front wheel drive is pointless here... hell, I would like to figure out a way to make my caddy all wheel drive.

By the way, nice car Clark, and the tail lights are cool. Do you know if he is planning on making more of those to sell?

Possibly, but I don't want to speak for him. PM Chad and ask him yourself. He really is a nice fellow. :callme:
