anyone have experience with getting rid/recycling fully intact vehicles?

is it as simple as towing to the junk yard? do salvage yards usually pay >$100 for a vehicle?

thanks.

Depends upon the vehicle and the market for it. I had a 1980 Accord that I got tired of building the engine in, and I got $100 for it (I was so happy to see the arse end of it to begin with - I'd have given it to them for free, told them so, and got a C-note for it anyhow...)

If you find a dismantler that specialises in that class/make/model of vehicle, you may get more for it. You might also want to find an enthusiasts' board (if it's not an XJ) where you can part it out - and you'll probably make more for it that way as well.

Most scrap yards require you to remove the gas tank at the vary least. Just give them a call in the morning, and ask.

here in Wisconsin the recycler are paying pretty good money for converters, some up to 100 dollars. they usaually want the gas tank out, but not aways. then they should pay you scrap steel prices which can vary but last time i went in i got 135 a ton, so you should be able to get 175 ish for a whole car.

My dad got a wrecker to cough up $300 for 91 Chevy 3/4 ton van after I wrecked it last spring. It had 300,000 miles by then on the motor with no major repairs, had been totalled previously and the transmission was shot (but we did not tell them). And... they picked it up, towed it away and did all the work removing dangerous items. I was utterly shocked. My dad of course, thinks they should have given him $600.

In NJ they pay pretty good money for cats too, any cat, so you need to be careful where you park. Somebody or a bunch of somebodies got like 50 out of one of the commuter parking lots in one day... you figure somebody would have heard a half dozen sawzalls going...

yea me and a buddy found out about the cat prices and went out to the back 40 with the cordless sawzall and made a quick 500 bucks for 8 converters, sold the rest of the cars on ebay stating, "need exhaust work"

You could also donate it to charity for a tax write-off. Call up the local Goodwill and they will send a wrecker out.

If you want money for it you better have the title too.
