not really too much you can get into seal wise with just the carrier pulled.
if you axle shaft seals aren't leaking then i wouldn't worry about anything. you can get a can of brake parts cleaner and clean out the insides really good just to make sure you get out any small metal deposits and dirt before you new locker goes in
I suggest checking the drained oil for excessive wear metal and remove the carrier and inspect the carrier bearings. If there is any pitting or any grooves in the bearing races then I recommend replacing all of the bearings and seals. When you put the diff cover back on put a very strong magnet on the inside of the diff cover to catch any future wear metal.
