powersteering pukes when under load on trails ?

So i was trying to turn around in a small area last weekend while out on the trail .
Next thing i know , there is a nice plume of smoke coming from the front driverside .
Unmistakble smell of psteering fuild burning and then dripping down over my swaybar bushing area ( noticed that it has disinegrated that bushing :( )

is this a common issue with the xj steering pumps ? or is something specifically wrong with mine ?

1992 XJ limited

It is most common on the 1984-1991 models, but unheard of on the 1992 and newer XJs. :D

Possible causes: High or low pressure p/s pump lines, steering gear, p/s pump tank, p/s pump seals, might even be the transmission cooler lines.

You need to clean up the mess and give it a good visual inspection.

NOTE: don't wait on this--"misted" ATF is very volatile.

flush the system, replace lines (cheap) and flush again a week later
