View Full Version : WHO'S RUNNING GREEN TRAL?
BOB
February 24th, 2010, 19:23
I am leading Green Trail again this year. Who is running green? XJOSH95 (Josh) is my tail-gunner. We will help everyone get through the trail. My group will be on cb channel 7. a few points to know. When you are in line, introduce yourself to the person in front of you and behind you. when you go over hills, always tell the person behind you when you are over the hill and out of the way. Just say the persons name and say "BOB...I am clear". this way he or she knows they can come over and know they will not run into you. If someone in front of you is going up a hill, don't move up...wait til he gets over the hill. Because, he may not make it over and may need to roll back down the hill.
If you have ANY questions, post them up now.

i will either run green or "Rev's Run" depending on the requirements, the leaders figure that out on friday right?

Yes....by Friday night we will know what the requirements are for each trail.
If you are too built for Easy, and don't mind paint damage, or the chance of body damage, Rev's Run will be open to you.

Green and White are the easier stuff. We can get your stocker through and if all else fails someone will have a winch and everyone will have a strap. We had quite a few bone stock rigs running last year You may damage your rockers at stock height just depends on whether you care or not. Orange is more difficult and usually requires one locker but it depends on the condition of the trail in any case. Red/Pink are the Hard stuff. Then there is a whole Quarry to play around in.

lets break some more shit

Tessa and I are with you Bob... Although Rev's run sounds interesting I will just have to wait for the requirements. If it will involve the Orange trail rock garden I am out. I hated wheelin that over the summer when I went. I just had no fun trying it open on 30's.

Rev's little romp through the ATV trails last year was a blast, depending on
where he ventures to this year I might follow him on his trail run too. I'm
thinking I don't want to push it too hard because I still have my little heat
soak issue I've had the last 3 winterfests I've been to.
For those of you who are wondering what trails to try, I was able to
"make" it through pink last year with 32's, a winch, and a front locker.
However, it was dry, I took most of the detours, and had some help.
But I will say it fun and a good learning experience.

Green can be as easy or difficult as you want it to be. With a stock XJ, yes, you can make it through using some by-passes and common sense. Green can have some challenges as well. There are some areas you can choose not to by-pass, test your skills, and see what your XJ can do. Thats why it is very important to have a working cb radio. This way we can communicate to you while we're on the trail. Also, this is why it is important to have front and rear tow points.

Hmmm spent 45 bucks at walmart on Tessa's CB and Antenna I won't have much range 500 yards but it will get her through WF. Maybe should look into it. We will be happier if you have one.

It would have to be a really long string. You would be like BLLLLLAAAAAAAHHHHHH up the hill and the string would go.... Doink.
And we would loose all radio contact and Id be lost forever.

Unfortunately I will be there only in spirit this year, but I have some tips for the 'newbies'.
1) Listen to Bob/Josh, they know what they're talking about. Trust em and you'll get through fine.
2)Don't be afraid to ask for help/tips/tows, that's what they're there for. :)
3)Be confident in your jeeps ability, you'd be amazed what it can do stock/mild build. (I was amazed last yr...)
4)If your rig is making weird sounds/acting weird, let the Vets take a look at it. (Thought I had a broken rear axle last yr, turned out just to be water/sand in drum breaks...)
Follow these tips and you'll have a blast! Remember its not so much about the wheeling as it is about communicating with those around you and having a fun time!

Plenty of places, I'm sure, but this place is right down the street from my work. Lots of selection and good prices. If you want to avoid shipping I can pick it up. It's a warehouse type place, but they're cool with walk-ins, too.

Sure thing, BOB. I'll get the exact one in the link unless you see something else you like better. I'll go at lunchtime Mon or Tues...bring it to you Friday AM.
BTW, I'll be running in your group (or one of the green groups) on Sat. I don't care what Rob says about ya, I'll still wheel with ya :laugh3:

that one will do I guess....not sure how great we can tune it.
If you see something better, go for it. You can go up to $30 for a magnet base style..anything is better than what I have for sure.
Your welcome in my group Eric. Rob did great last year.
This year Rob has Tessa, so we'll make room for them for sure!!

They don't have a retail area at the warehouse for me to view them, only the website. But here's what they have in that price range in addition to the one above. Your choice!

You will do fine! I'm at the same lift height and 33's and I cruise through. I've done Orange with my current setup, but it was dry and I did have a little bit of a tough time, mainly cause I'm open/open.

Tuning SWR Procedure (without meter): Rise onto feet. Body in upright position. Raise arm. Mildly move arm back and forth with open hand in direction of people. Once you recieve the same signal in return, your "Standing Wave" has been tuned.

There's plenty of links about tuning on the webz. I have a pretty sweet system, and have it tuned in good where I have about 7-8 miles of range.
Also it looks like this may be the run for me!
