We had one break tonight. I've heard this isn't something you want to attempt to fix yourself.
That being said... Has anyone done it? Is it something I should pay to have done? Does anyone have someone they trust? What is the average cost to fix a broken spring?
Thanks guys.

you'll need two people and 2 4ft bars and preloading the spring sucks and dangerous, i've done two and if the bars slip out you can shoot that spring across the garage, as to answer the rest of your questions, yes, no , i dunno :D

Yes, about 2 years ago
Yes
I used Martin Door, as they are a customer of mine. Martin makes their own springs of high quality steel, right in SLC.
Cost me $125 installed. Use this price as a negotiating tool, call someone local like A+ Northern Utah Door in NSL or Overhead Door Company of Bountiful.

My dad and I have done 3 springs on 3 seperate doors. 2 people makes it safer, but its still freaky. We don't use 4 foot bars either just some tapered down punches about 1 ft long. Replacment springs usally run me about 30 bucks
