View Full Version : Bad fuse block / fuse box

My 1988XJ (Renix 4.0) is starting to present trouble with the fuse block.

1. Some months ago, my clutch pedal broke, and it went right on the dome light fuse. The result: broken fuse box and a improvised connection to get the dome light working again.
2. There was a short in the exterior lights, the fuse melted and now it's a PITA to get a new fuse in place.
3. The air blower fuse just doesn't work fine, I have to keep moving it, but it still works and stops working with temperature changes.
4. I don't trust the rest of the fuse sockets anymore.

So, I would like to replace it, but I have no idea of where I could buy a new one (or even a used one), and I have also no idea of how to get it out. Does it come with all the wiring harness attached?

Any other solution like some aftermarket fuse box? Any similar experiences?

The fuse block is part of the main interior wiring harness. If, when your clutch broke, it spilled all over the fuse pannel, you can (simply...) replace the interior main wiring harness. If, when you clutch broke, it jizzed all over your main wiring harness connector at the firewall, it would be in your best interest to replace both the main interior wiring harness AND the 2 (TWO) coresponding harnesses in the engine compartment.

FWIW; my clutch jizzed on my main connector in the firewall. I did my best to just clean the heck out of it and cary on, and I have dealt with electrical gremlins ever since. Next time all new harnesses are going in.

Well, there was no fluid spilled over the fusebox, it was the clutch pin that screwed the fusebox (maybe I was pressing the pedal too hard).

Now, my specific question is: where can I get the fusebox and the internal harness? I really have looked for it (rock-auto, ebay, autozone) and no clues. And, will it cost damn 200USD?????

I found the following:

http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?UseCase=C001&UserAction=performMoreDetail&Parameters=TRUE%7C%7EFuse+Blocks%7C%7ENONE%7C%7E12 +Circuit+Universal+Fuse+Block%7C%7ENONE%7C%7EFALSE %7C%7EFALSE%7C%7E196663%7C%7E1536%7C%7E30001%7C%7E NONE%7C%7E%24128.99%7C%7ENONE%7C%7ENONE%7C%7ENONE% 7C%7ENONE%7C%7E1.844%7C%7EEA%7C%7EV%7C%7EPPP%7C%7E true

But it would require me to know the layout of the current fusebox, so, does anyone have it on paper? Or at least cable colors? I think this could also get messy, would you do this fuseblock switch?
