I've got a '94 2dr, 2WD, 4cyl, 5spd that needs a cylinder head and a '91, 4dr 4.0l. auto, 4WD that needs a title..... $1000 gets you two that can make one nice ride. Not the perfect DD out of the box, but between the two, a decent ride for 25% of your "max." price.

The GSA auction site in Baltimore, MD has a handful of 98 XJ's in the 50 - 60,000 mile range. Auto, air, 4.0, 4x4. Not sure of the price but they go up for auction Feb. 23rd. I bought a 97 from them in 2002 with 40,000 miles and have put 90,000 on it. Oh yeah, I paid 4500 for it then so these should go even cheaper.

I don't know if you have found anything yet but there is an XJ near me for sale. It is a little higher than you were wanting to spend, but he might give you a deal. It is a 2001 black 4 door 4.0 auto. It has 80,000 miles and is CLEAN. Its bone stock and ready for DD duties. He's asking 6800 but you might talk him down.

Being a user of a GSA vehicle on a daily basis I would NEVER buy one. It may have low miles but if it had an hour meter on it you would think twice. We take them out on the flight line and run the A/C in the summer and heat in the winter for over half a shift either waiting on aircraft or on launch. Thats just my shift. We run 24hr 7 days a week. No telling how many hours that vehicle has run. Sure they get regular maintenance but its just like buying a rental car. Who knows whos thrashed it. Thats just me. I guess it all depends where the vehicle was located and used. The only way I would pick one up is if it was my GSA vehicle and was with it from day one.
