early prognosis on this weekend's weather setting up for the mid-Atlantic, shows an even BIGGER storm than what we got this weekend. Still too early to lock in a precip forecast, but this one could be a doozey.......stay tunedparty1:

Yeah, it's a Miller A type storm and TN doesn't get squat. Good luck with it.

Most impressive, grasshopper......
although this setup kind of gets it's bang going from more of a "B" scenario, there's a blocking low swinging down into the area tomorrow from the NW that's going to get pushed off the Atl coast as this low moves in. If things go as predicted, and the cold H pressure system drops down from the lakes area, that offshore L will steer the system right thru my backdoor.
Yeah, I'm a weather geek.....:looser:

Oh snap. I'm on a local TN WX forum so I've been picking up on some stuff. Not as big of a geek as you seem to be, though, haha.
We got 5" with the last system so that's 5" more than we've gotten in two years.
I havent checked up on any chatter of the latest GFS runs, but it's doubtful mid TN gets anything but cold rain.

You just haven't been alive long enough! It snowed 18" in January 1995 in Nashville/Central 10-O-C. I was there and in college. NO one but us "outsiders" knew how to drive in it. I had a blast watching the locals get stuck in 4wd's while my Ford Fiesta went where ever I pointed it.

Well, I didn't move to TN until 1999, and before that I lived in places that had exciting snow e.g. Kansas, Germany.
Mid TN blows for snow.
Though, according to this map, some people will get hammered. http://www.twisterdata.com/index.php?prog=forecast&model=GFS&grid=3&model_yyyy=2010&model_mm=02&model_dd=01&model_init_hh=18&fhour=120¶meter=SNOWIN&level=SURFACE&unit=none&maximize=n&mode=singlemap&sounding=n&output=image&archive=false

We didn't even get the ice event...been a cold, cold rain here the whole time. Was watching news reports up in Greensboro it turned over to a heavy snow unexpectedly and the roads were a mess for the morning rush hour. Schools up there made the call last night to close today in anticipation of ice, and they didn't re-open until yesterday from last weekends storm...so they got pretty much the whole week off....not fair!!!
They're calling 2 feet plus up around D.C. where my cousin lives...ohh how I wish I could drop everything and take a road trip :D

CAn you weather guys explain to me why so many snow storms are hitting the more southern areas that usually don't see as much snow? I'm here in northern new jersey, I;m 28 years old and have never seen in my life southern jersey, Delaware, Maryland, northern va region get hit with tons more snow in a season then northern jersey, northeast pa, southern ny area. They are calling for only as little as 3 to as much as 14 for my area, but 20 to 30 inches in the more southern areas that i mentioned again same as last few storms.
Just curious.

El Nino....we usually get a "wet" winter on El Nino winters, and this year the temps have actually been colder than normal..thus resulting in more snow than normal. We usually get ice.

Our local club has been out since yesterday afternoon running med staff in and out of one of the local hospitals. I got back in around 1AM this morning, got some sleep, and went back out around 8. Just came in now for some dinner and a shower (and a nap.....), and will probably be back out again in a few hours for the evening shift. Yeehaw.

VDOT plowed our road a few minute ago, we threw snowballs at him for messing up our "block sledding party" tonight, we had hot chocolate and beer ready. I even went out got a new sled, a "Flexible Flyer", now there is no ice to sled on. Damn plow trucks:smsoap:

We have C.E.R.T. people around here for that now. Our hospitals won't let us help out unless we have our CERT certification. It takes 8 Saturdays to complete the course but you are fully insured while transporting med staff.

I'm not CERT certified so I don't have to worry about it. I can't afford 8 Saturdays to sit in a class. My wife is a RN so I take care of transporting her.
