I have a 99 xj 4.0 AW4

Went to the store today for 5 mins and came out, what do you know some " Insert Insults Here " Decided they needed a Jeep Cat conv. more then i did.

I've already changed out the muffler with a 40 series.
Need to replace the header also. ( Small crack at collectors )

I found this cat online.

Price on this unit is resonable. What do you guys/gals think?.

AdvanceAuto has a replacement for $119.xx

Would i be better getting the cat i linked?. and fixing the header with a apn? ( What ever it is called )

Also would there be any down-side to removing the pre-cat?.

Thanks.

Defeating an emissions device is not advised.

That CAT you linked to is the one I would use, others on here have it and are happy with its performance. However, I think you might need 2.5" inlet, 2.25" outlet, but I am wrong at times.

The APN would be a great header, here is the best price I have found: http://www.ineedparts.com/index.php?target=products&product_id=15343

And adding a stainless steel flex pipe between the CAT and downpipe will reduce stress on the header. Sample: http://www.cxracing.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CXR&Product_Code=FLEXPIPE-250x8

If you are wanting to use your current muffler/pipe you will need a 2.25 out, as the stock cats are 2.5in to 2.25 out. Or you can just get a new muffler and tailpipe.

Either way you will need at least one adapter to step-down/up.

Why not go with the 2.5", put a step-down on the outlet to 2.25 to tie into the rest of the exhaust?

Because of price.. less than 50 plus what 4-9 bucks for a reducer.. thats half the price of a direct fit.. and its smaller.

idk im just a cheap ass.

you need to make sure it either comes with or you add the bung for the 02 sensor

make it easy on yourself, just get a direct fit hi flow

I installed that on my XJ October last and removed the Hush Power Resonator I had been running. It fit like it was made for the XJ. Wait a minute,... it was made for the XJ.

There was no change in the exhaust tone and no change in performanance. The exhaust did get hotter for the first 200 miles or so (I did trips of less than 10 miles) then it returned to the normal temperature.

I could have bought something less expensive ie; a universal then spend hours welding in adoptors to make it fix but why go through that?
