It wasn't purely carbonated prune juice, but it was one of the main 23 ingredients in DP.

I Toured Annheiser Busch brewery this summer, and they give you LOTS of free samples, as long as you drink it in their hospitality room on site, and have a DD for the ride home! LOL Oh yeah, the tour of their brewery is free as well. Kind of reminded me of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory.... Ok maybe i was a little too excited about the tour.

Ok, enough of the RRC Hi Jacking...

Dr Pepper Chocolate Cake

2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
1 cup cocoa
1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 cup Dr Pepper
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 large eggs
1 cup buttermilk
2 cup canola oil
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch cake pans.

Sift together the sifted flour, sugar, brown sugar, cocoa and baking soda and set aside.

Heat the Dr Pepper in a small saucepan over low heat. Add the chocolate chips and stir until melted. Remove from heat.

With an electric mixer, beat the eggs, buttermilk, oil and vanilla for 2 minutes. At lowest speed, slowly add the Dr Pepper mixture and beat for 1 additional minute. Gradually add the dry ingredients, and beat at medium speed for 2 minutes.

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans, and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans for 15 minutes, then invert onto cooling racks, lift off pans and allow to cool completely before frosting.

The frosting:

3/4 cup butter-flavored Crisco
6 tablespoons butter, at room temperature
4 cups sifted confectioner's sugar
1/4 cup cocoa
1/4 cup Dr Pepper
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Using an electric mixer, beat the shortening and butter until light and fluffy. At low speed, gradually beat in the confectioner's sugar and cocoa. Add the Dr Pepper and vanilla, and turn mixer to high speed until frosting is light and fluffy, about 1 minute.

Homemade Dr Pepper Jelly

3 1/2 c. sugar
2 1/4 c. Dr. Pepper or Big Red soda pop
1/4 c. lemon juice
3 oz. liquid pectin

Few drops red food color (if using Dr. Pepper soda)
Combine sugar, lemon juice, and soda pop in large saucepan. Add red color, if necessary to make pretty color. Place over high heat; bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Stir in pectin at once. Bring to a full boil and boil hard for 2 minutes. Remove from heat; skim off foam with metal spoon. Pour into hot sterilized glasses. Cover with paraffin or seal jars. Cool and store in cool, dry place. Allow to set a few days before serving. Makes approximately 5 (6 ounce) glasses.

Homemade Beam and Dr. Pepper

4 blocks ice
1/2 glass Jim Beam bourbon
1/2 glass Dr. Pepper

Place ice in drinking glass of choice. Fill glass with Jim Beam bourbon to 1/2 full (or 1/2 empty...depending on your viewpoint). Pour Dr. Pepper into glass at high rate to encourage spoon free mixing. Enjoy. Repeat.

When I went to Anheiser Busch brewery in St Louis, all we could have was two glasses of beer but all the chips and pretzels we could eat.

You got Robbed! I drank at least 5 or 6 different kinds of beer when I went. Who knows though, they may have stopped doing that to avoid drunk a-holes, and lawsuits. You know how the world is now days. LOL

Made the recipe in the first post last night for some ribs. Waaaaaay too much lemon juice and onions for me. Second batch, left out the onions and about 1/2 the lemon juice and added brown sugar, made it much better. Dumped it on the ribs in the oven for three hours and it came out real nice.

I just made it and can't taste any dr. pepper in it. That being said, I think it's a great mop/sauce. I like my sauce runny.
