what would normal oil psi be for a 4.0 (95 with 170,000 and synth oil 10w/30) and what does it mean or could it mean if its to high?

at idle it should be between 7 -10 psi and at 2k-3k should be at 40-60psi is good with engine at normal operating temp, the higher the better, try elf motor oil full syn, oil made in Germany work great,

I don't know where you fished those figures from but the Jeep FSM says minimum 13psi hot idle and minimum 37psi above 1600rpm.

Ok, stupid question, but i have to know. When im wheeling, my pressure is aways around 13-17 maybe 20 going through some stuff, but always low, and highway pressure is like 48 or something.

Am i hurting anything by running pressure that low wheeling, or is that just the norm and it is ok.

I run Castrol 5w-30 regular oil. I have not bought in to the full synth deal yet.

That might be slightly on the low side, but I'd say you're fine. Couldn't hurt to verify your pressure with a mechanical gauge either.

too high may mean your sensor is out... too high in this case being pegged out constantly (my situation, sensor to be installed this weekend, i'll let you know results if this is your issue as well)...

I noticed an increase in oil pressure by using Castrol Synthec 20W-50 and also a larger oil filter, (a quart larger) Wix 51775. Now reads 20 at idle and 50 when running. Will drop to 40 after running for a long time...hours. Holds 7 quarts total during oil change with filter. [97 XJ w/ 4.0L AW4]

For reference, I have a reman 4.0L with 24K using 10W30 Mobil 1. When I first start the engine, the oil pressure runs a bit above 40 but after the engine warms up, I'm usually seeing around 25. This is with the engine running between 1500-2000 rpm. I'll have to watch next time and see how much the pressure rises with an increase in engine speed.

My gauge reads 60. It goes down to about 50 after driving for awhile so I didn't think it was gauge. Mines a '96. I was going to see if it went down after I did an oil change, the only thing I thought is that the previous owner put in 20w-50... Any thoughts?
