I live in the gay state of New Jersey. I own a 99 jeep cherokee with 33's. I need to regear my axles to 4:56's so I can save my transmission and get that power back that I miss soo much! Does anyone know a shop or even a friend in N.J that knows how to do ring and pinions the right way??? please help cause everyone that i talked to wants $400-$500 per axle to do them and thats not even including the parts thats just the labor!!!

Depends what rear axle he has. If he has the 8.25 it only goes up to 4.56.

Start calling around to speed shops, namely hot rod places. Those guys usually can give you a pretty good list of who does and doesn't do quality work.

Check the local forums and clubs. Us shadetree gear guys tend to do a good job because we can't afford to F'up your schtuff... Somebody up there has got to do it for half that.

Where in NJ ? OK 4 wheel drive in stewartsville does them. There are a few places out here in the allentown area that charge about $200 if you got the parts. www.bmja.org has a couple of sponsors/members in NJ that have shops too. When I had my auburn put in it was around $450 or so and that included new bearings, seals and the auburn itself, installed and setup. Had it done at Performance driveline, he does alot of the local jeep owners and bmja members, he's right by bluemountain ski area.

I might have to visit that place when it's time to put a locker in the rear.

I always throw out EMSoffroad.com in PA. It is worth the drive for great work, the right price, and someone who doesn't rip off the customer. If nothing else, give him a call and get a quote to compare others to. Eric at EMSoffroad.com 570-644-9151.

I live in NY city, EMS is 2 1/2 hours from me, and YES it is still worth the drive. I usually make a weekend out of the trip and go ride quads in the area while Eric does the work. I stay over at a motel, pick the parts up the next day and shoot home. He has done 3 sets of rears for me, and ALWAYS top quality work.

i dont know anyone in jersey, but I would reccomend M&D racing in warminster pa. He has set up a few r & p, posi tracs and built a driveshaft all great work. They work on race cars, highly modified street cars, 4x4s and can build anything for a chassis. 215-674-1921 ask for Marty tell him Chris I refered you. not too far from jersey and closer to 250 per axle
